Torsion Spring Repair
If the spring is noisy during door opening and closing, it needs proper lubrication. Lithium-based spray will do an excellent job when applied on all coils. When the opener works fine, but the door is hard to open or to keep closed, the spring is to blame. It is best for the tension to be tested after the opener has been disconnected. The test involves lifting the door by hand and letting go when it is halfway open. If the door goes up or down at a considerable speed, the spring has to be adjusted. In the first case, the tension has to be reduced while in the second one, it has to be increased. Severely damaged and broken springs require immediate replacement.
Panel Repair
Wood panels are more likely to get damaged over time than steel ones. The biggest issue is decay. The decaying sections are darker and softer. The repair involves removing the rotten wood, filling the holes with specially made material and sealing them. When the decay has affected most of the panel, it should be replaced altogether. Steel panels can get dents, chips and tiny holes, but this is highly unlikely. The good news is that these types of damage can be fixed with the appropriate repair techniques and materials. Rust is a more serious problem as it can cause great damage in the longer term. The panels should be cleaned with safe rust remover and repainted. The weather seals should be changed too, if necessary.
